My sibling passed away and not sure if there was a will and his partner (not married) claims everything was left to them.

my sibling passed away and not sure if there was a will and his partner (not married) claims everything was left to them, but we dont really trust this, how can we find out if its true?

Answer: It is quite common for unmarried couples to inadvertently disinherit one another. Additionally, they often have joint ownership of their significant assets. To determine the situation with your brother’s assets, you can take the following steps:

1. Ask the Significant Other: Request proof from the significant other to confirm whether the assets in question belonged to them.

2. File in Probate Court: Initiate a probate action to open an estate and be appointed as the personal representative. From there, you can investigate whether your brother owned any assets in the relevant jurisdictions.

Keep in mind that this process can be both expensive and time-consuming.
