Claire is a native of South Carolina and a 1986 graduate the University of South Carolina School of Law. Claire started out in a South Carolina litigation practice, specializing and domestic relations and real estate law. She later joined the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Greenville, South Carolina where she was in charge of the civil division at the largest county prosecutor’s office in the state.
In 1992, Claire moved to Michigan with her husband, Jack Clary, a local labor relations and employment attorney, who grew up in East Grand Rapids. She joined the Michigan Bar and a worked at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan for many years in the civil division.
Claire has spent nearly two decades volunteering in Grand Rapids. She started out in the Junior League of Grand Rapids which was dedicated primarily to children’s issues. However, her real passion was for the elderly in the area. Claire joined the Board of Trustees of the Gerontology Network and served for over a decade at GN which brought vital services to the community including, adult daycare and behavioral health services. She is currently serving as Foundation Board Chair of the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, which has brought low vision services to clients in the Grand Rapids area for over 100 years. Several years ago, Claire joined the Board of Trustees of Widowed Persons Service of Grand Rapids, a non-profit, which has conducted free educational support groups for Kent County widows and widowers for over 40 years. Claire became the Executive Director of Widowed Persons Service where she became very familiar with issues involving end of life decisions, grief counselling, and nursing homes.
Claire and Jack have a son, Jack Morgan, who is their pride and joy along with their lab, Bay.
